The bright blue fire engine rolled into Queen Victoria Square in Hull on Tuesday to mark the ground-breaking collaboration. In the shadow of Hull City Hall, Fire Service senior officers, Hull Clinical Commissioning Group staff and a representative from Prostate Cancer UK gathered to see the new appliance make its first appearance in public.

HFRS has also signed up to Men United, Prostate Cancer UK’s movement for anyone who believes men are worth fighting for, and are encouraging its employees and local residents to do something together with their friends to help beat prostate cancer.

The Blue Fire Engine certainly fulfilled its role in raising awareness of prostate cancer, but should also remind Hedon folk that its Mayor Councillor John Dennis is also supporting the charity via his Mayor’s charity funds.

Historic Hedon badgeSales of the Hedon enamel badge will also contribute towards the good cause.

Note: We were going to seek civic permission to publish a photograph of the Mayor with his distinctive red coat turned blue for the occasion – but perhaps that’s something we can seek to do in order to raise some extra funds for the Mayor’s charity funds?

PS: It’s also worth remembering that some of the Mayor’s Charity Funds will also be going towards other local community projects. So if you know of any such deserving causes….?
