HOMAGE was paid to those fallen in wars on Remembrance Sunday 2013 in Hedon, and Royal British Legion veterans took centre stage on a parade led by the drummers and marching band of the Humberside and South Yorkshire Army Cadet Force.
The occasion began with the Mayoral civic party being greeted by the Colours of the Army Cadets. Hedon Mayor Councillor Jim Lindop then formally inspected the cadets stopping to chat with several as he carried out his duties.
The civic party then retired to the rear of the assembled veterans, representatives of uniformed services, local Guides, Women’s Institute and other local civic and community leaders. The assembly then paraded to Saint Augustine’s Church.
Following a service at the Church and marking two minutes silence at 11am, a further parade took place to the Hedon Cenotaph where wreaths were placed by Hedon Mayor Councillor Jim Lindop and service representatives. A short service and further two minutes silence took place.
Mr Don Failey then took the opportunity to formally present a memorial parchment to the Mayor, commemorating the men, women and children of Hedon who were killed by enemy action in the town during World War II. The parchment had been made by Julie Marshall and *Maureen Muriel Scudamore.
Civic leaders then made their way down Ivy Lane to the Town centre in order to receive the formal salute from the marching service representatives.
