A FREE mobile Skate Park session is being staged by Hedon Town Council on Friday 9th August 2013.
It will be set up at Johnson’s Corner Car Park and will suit all young skateboarders, scooter riders and BMX bikers!
The event will last from 3pm – 8pm.
Note: This Mobile Skate Park idea was first mooted by Hedon Town Council in December 2012 and the report from Councillor Lindop about the council meetings that month is quite interesting to read; it gives you an idea of just what has been achieved by Hedon Town Council so far this year.
On behalf of Hedon Town Council may I offer our sincere apologies for the issues regarding the mobile skate park event. The car park on Johnsons corner is the responsibility of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC). When the mobile skate session was arranged some months ago ERYC agreed that it would be their responsibility to clear/close the car park and set up and run the mobile session – Hedon Town Council has no jurisdiction over the car park and therefore cannot take any action to close it or restrict parking/access. Unfortunately the staff member who arranged the booking no longer works for ERYC and it appears that it was not communicated to the new staff team that they were responsible for clearing the car park of vehicles prior to the event. Hedon Town Council is extremely disappointed with the apparent lack of communication at ERYC which resulted in the skate park event not being as successful as it should have been and will pursue this issue with ERYC.

I turned up at 3pm with my son to discover a car park full of cars and the guys with the mobile skate park stood by their van wondering what to do. We left and returned at 4pm to find some vehicles had left and they had managed to erect a couple of ramps which wasn’t enough for the amount of children that had turned up. We ended up leaving disappointed. Maybe things worked better after the car park emptied but we had gone elsewhere by that time. I just thought the event would of been better organised as it has been advertised for weeks. I understand the issues with car parking in Hedon and that closing the car park for the day would be an upheaval so maybe an alternative venue should of been considered.
Sarah – Similar concerns have been expressed by other parents about this event too. Really the car park should have been ready (empty) for the team just to arrive and set up at 3pm.
By about 6pm the car park was quite busy with children, but still only two ramps set up.
