Sign – looking somewhat jaded now perhaps?

GAME PEOPLE in George Street, Hedon has announced its closure at the end of January 2013.

In a statement published on the shop’s Facebook Page retailer Mike Pearce said:

“It has been a roller coaster ride the last few years but we regret that we will be unable to keep going through what has been an incredibly difficult time for retail and the games industry in general, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers ( you know who you are ) for your support and custom without which we would not have made it this far. Sadly there just wasn’t enough of you to make the shop successful.”

Over the last three years Mike Pearce has been an advocate for encouraging residents to shop locally. So it is perhaps fitting that his closing comments continue on this theme:

“And to those new customers and those who have never shopped with us I urge you to please support your local businesses they need your custom now more than ever.”

It maybe that Game People will continue as on online retailer – we will bring you the news of that and the links if this is the case.

The Hedon Blog would like to thank Mike for his support of the Hedon Blog and his involvement in many local debates prompted by the Blog – his comments are always insightful and useful. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

As another shop closes in the town, then local traders need to ask: Have we really done enough to boost local trade? Is it enough just to put up signs appealing for people to support their local traders? Is a more active campaign needed?

Leave a comment. You need to leave your FULL NAME.
