GRAHAM STUART, the MP for Beverley and Holderness, will demand Yorkshire Water puts an end to the recurring stench from the Saltend Waste Water Treatment Works plant when he appears before an official council inquiry on Tuesday (tomorrow 10th September 2015).
We look at Yorkshire Water’s latest update on their odour incidents and ask why they haven’t attempted to tackle odours at the source – the West Hull Pea Factory…?

A pattern has emerged throughout the history of the Saltend works which sees odour incidents followed by a public outcry, and then Yorkshire Water invests in a solution. In fact a cynic would say that odour incidents have provided the context for expansion of the site. The time has now come to search for a solution that doesn’t satisfy Yorkshire Water’s capacity and investment problems – but instead looks at it from the point of view of local residents, and the needs and necessities of local communities and businesses.
Don’t give up reporting the stinks, “We’ll all get tired of it!” that’s what Yorkshire Water thinks…

Council should now: Recognise and formalise liaison with the resident-led committee, collaborate on collecting ‘evidence’ of odours and their impacts on enjoying land and property, fully investigate the health impacts of the odours
