PENSANA PLC has announced that work has begun to establish the world’s first sustainable rare earth separation facility at Saltend Chemicals Park.
Following the easing of coronavirus restrictions the company has begun work on the site. This includes work teams from partners pxGroup and Wood Plc.
The £88 million facility will create over 100 direct jobs. It will supply over 5 per cent of the world’s critical magnet metal oxides. Industries to benefit include those producing electric vehicles and offshore wind turbines.
Pensana’s Chairman, Paul Atherley, said:
“The works on-site at Saltend mark the early stage of delivering Pensana’s nationally significant rare earth separation facility, creating an independent, sustainable supply chain for magnet-critical industries like electric vehicles and offshore wind.
“Saltend will become important to the UK’s Net Zero ambitions, bring high-value manufacturing jobs back to Humber and create a platform on which sustainable supply chains can be established in the UK.”
