WHAT ISSUES were being discussed in the area in 2013? We look at some of the stories from that news week:

Martyn Shipstone behind Legion barHedon British Legion was recognised as a Club at the heart of the town in a Hull Daily Mail article that lauded the skills of then-new(ish) Club Steward Martyn Shipstone, who as well as been an experienced bar manager was also a seasoned entertainer. This picture, taken in January 2013 behind the Legion bar, is perhaps not as flattering ones we have taken since!
Paull Village Hall after the Opening Ceremony

The New Village Hall in Paull opened on Saturday 30th March. We took a video of the opening ceremony with the late and the great Paul Cross as Master of Ceremonies.

This week in 2013 also saw the formal launch of the Kerry Key Foundation which has since raised thousands of pounds for charities in memory of local Mum, Kerry, who sadly lost her battle with cancer. The new charity was organising a fundraising Fancy Dress to launch the new charity at the Alexandra Hall in May that year we reported.

Veteran Hull Daily Mail Reporter Angus Young wrote an article about the “Row between Hull and East Riding Councillors” over the plans to build a factory on the old Hedon Aerodrome site. HU12 Online of course would cover this story over the next few years. In fact, we are still doing so, albeit the “row” seems to have eased into collaboration and compromise between the two local authorities.

Some publications wrote regularly about the town that week as well – the most notable being the Holderness Gazette which is a weekly newspaper with a new edition out every Thursday!
