COVID-19 Local Vaccination Progress

HOLDERNESS HEALTH, the combined local GP practices, today announced on their Facebook Page that more than 50% of over 80-year-olds in the area on their priority lists have been vaccinated against COVID-19. Also, by the end of today, the first dose COVID-19 vaccinations will have been completed in all 17 care homes in the patch.

This is the Priority 1 group as identified by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) and is a big step forward in protecting the most vulnerable within our community. Our thanks go to all the care home managers and their teams for doing such a fabulous job in preparing everything for our vaccination teams, ensuring a safe and efficient service. Also to our staff many of whom have given up their weekends and days off to make this happen as quickly as possible.

The message from Holderness Health is not to contact surgeries with queries about the vaccine, rather they will contact patients when it is their turn to receive the vaccination in line with the national priorities that have been set. Bookings are being managed by a COVID-19 vaccination support team so appointments cannot be made by ringing the normal contact numbers.

We understand that many of you still have questions about when you will receive the vaccine and where you will be able to have it.

Our supply of vaccine is not controlled by the practice but is sent to us based on national availability. We do not have a regular delivery at present and we receive very short notice of what we are to receive and when. We are also working under the specific requirements that apply differently to each of the currently available vaccinations. This makes planning very challenging. However, we wanted to reassure you all that we are aware of all the concerns about when housebound patients will be done and whether we will be able to offer clinics in other locations.

We are continually evaluating, risk-assessing and planning to ensure that we get the most out of the deliveries of vaccine that we are receiving to make sure that we can protect as many of you as we can, as quickly as possible.

Whilst there is understandably lots of frustration about the lack of information over progress with the vaccination programme, the heartening news is the glowing reports from those who have already been for their jabs; with people describing the experience as a ‘smooth’ and well-organised process.

At HU12 we had a wonderful phone call from a lady in Withernsea just before Christmas who asked us to pass on her thanks to Holderness Health after receiving her vaccination at Hedon Group Practice. Being nervous about it all, she says the staff and experience were “absolutely fantastic; made me feel welcome and reassured”. She couldn’t express her gratitude highly enough.

People are often quick to complain when things don’t go right, but it’s rarer that people take the time to offer positive feedback. So thank you to staff at Holderness Health from this lady and I’m sure from many others who have had a similar experience.
