#stayhome and #stayactive with Active East Riding – new website

Active East Riding has been launched with the aim of making it easier to #stayhome and #stayactive

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has launched Active East Riding – a new website, full of ideas and suggestions for people of all ages during the period when the council’s facilities are closed, allowing people to #stayhomestayactive

Rather than being a period of doing nothing, the council is hoping that people will discover things to do, to learn from and to take part in whilst at home.

Councillor Richard Burton, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “It is absolutely essential for our health and wellbeing that we make the most of this enforced time at home, with some people being apart from family and friends. I am delighted that we have been able to put together a variety of ideas for things to do, to appeal to as many people as possible.”

John Skidmore, director of adults, health and customer services, added: “I hope that these ideas will inspire people to try new things and to reduce the anxiety which inevitably comes at times like these. We will be adding many more ideas as time goes by, so please keep revisiting the site!”

The website has launched with ideas for all ages, including:

  • Online Challenges for Under 5s with Tiny Treasures / Sewerby Squirrels
  • Enjoy an Online Literature Festival
  • Watch a range of videos from East Riding Archives
  • Read eBooks and listen to eAudiobooks
  • Hear bedtime stories from the children’s library team
  • Les Mills On Demand: sessions to enjoy at home
  • Learn how to draw cartoons
  • Meditations by Mark Williams.

  1. One great activity for young and old:
    Paper maché!
Old bottle as a basic mould.
    Newspaper.
    A littleflour.
    Bowl or bucket.
A table covered to protect it.
Time and patience as making something requires over one day for drying, reapplying paper, drying and painting.
It is great fun and the resultscan be amazing!
