The BILTON Remembrance Day Service on Sunday 11th November 2018, commences at the Village Hall at 10.30 am followed by a parade to the War Memorial for a service of remembrance.
Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding, Mr. R. Antony Byass, DL, MA, will inspect the parade at the Village Hall, before its departure to the cenotaph. During the act of remembrance, Bilton Primary School will be responsible for the roll call of the names of the dead whose names are on the memorial, followed by a service conducted by Mr Allan Hugman with wreaths being laid by civic, volunteer organisations, local brownies, scouts and football teams. Two members of the brownies will read John McCabe’s poem “Flanders Fields”.
A set of ceramic poppies will be placed in the planter alongside the war memorial. Two steel Tommy soldiers, heads bowed and rifles pointing downward, will be placed temporarily alongside the memorial to keep as a permanent feature as and when planning permission is granted.
After getting the details from here, my husband and myself walked to the village to watch the parade and celebrate the 100 years since the end of the Great War. We got there at 10-30 as that was the time the parade was starting only to be told the parade had already taken place. We weren’t the only ones to have missed the parade as there were quite a few people commenting on the fact that they had also missed it. Very disappointed that the information was not correct.
