THIS week’s audio poem “This Is Hull” is written and read by Cat Jordan. HU12 Online is delighted to introduce the poet, Cat Jordan, to our readers, viewers – and our listeners!

Cat writes:

“I’m 43 years old and am born and bred Hull. I’ve lived in Hedon for 41 years and have been writing poetry since I was a young girl. I’ve always had a love affair with words, how they look, sound and feel. I have had a couple of poems published in my younger years but have not really submitted anything since then, my writing has always been a platform for me to express my thoughts and feelings and sometimes you worry that people won’t always understand or get you. I was also a member of Hedon Drama Group and have written pantomimes which have been performed locally in past years.
“More recently I have been toying with the melody of spoken word. I think sometimes when you write something, it isn’t always read how you meant to express it. So by recording it, it can be appreciated in the form you wanted it to be heard.
“This piece is called This Is Hull and is something I have been playing around with since Hull obtained the acclaimed City of Culture status. It was born on a car journey from East Hull to West Hull as I wrote down little snippets of what I experienced going on around me. I hope you like it.”
