The Hedon appeal to establish a permanent War Memorial for the town is meeting with public support with over £3,000 raised to date of the expected £5,400 it will cost. The memorial, intended to be a beautiful silhouette of a soldier picking a poppy designed by Hedon Town Councillor Terry West, will be made of solid weathered steel and will be mounted on a granite plinth. A wooden replica of the Memorial has been constructed to aid fundraising activities.
Members of the fundraising team have been out in Hedon Market Place for street collections, and a series of events have been organised to enlist the support of residents and the public.
- A further street collection will be held on the morning of Saturday, September 15.
- A fundraising coffee morning will be held at the Town Hall on Thursday, September 20, 10am – 12 noon.
- A special Fundraising Dinner with Entertainment will be held on the evening of Friday, November 2 at the Haven Arms, Havenside, Hedon with tickets costing £20 available from the Town Hall or the Haven Arms.
Donations can be dropped into the Hedon Town Hall with cheques payable to ‘Hedon Armistice Centenary Memorial’ or payed into the appeal bank account Hedon Armistice Centenary Appeal, Lloyd’s Bank 30-98-90 Account Number 18232960.
