Burton Pidsea

Deanery Jamboree, Burton Pidsea Sun 29 July 2018

A unique South Holderness Deanery event takes place at the recently newly refurbished Burton Pidsea Memorial Hall and Playing Fields on Sunday, July 29; the Deanery Jamboree takes place from 12 noon until 3pm offering family entertainment, live music, free food and a very enjoyable and different way of sharing the worship experience.

Rev. Susan Walker the Area Dean explained: “South Holderness Deanery are closing down their churches for that Sunday and meeting together for an All Age Afternoon. Although aimed at all ages we hope it will be particularly attractive to families with children. We encourage people to bring their families and friends and support all our churches, as we unite for this very special event.”

Ken Wilson: St George and the Dragon!

One of the attractions for the event will be a Puppet Show re-enacting the tale of St. George and The Dragon. Providing the puppets and the performers is St. Mary’s Church of Thorngumbald. Ken Wilson from the church has made a magnificent Dragon puppet especially for the event and it was on display at St. Mary’s over the weekend. When asked how long it had taken him to make the puppet, which is made from wood and papier-mâché and has moving parts, he grimaced and said “It took a long time!” Ken continued: “We held a puppet show at this church for the nativity and it went really well, so we hope that the St. George and The Dragon story with music will be lots of fun and add something a bit different to this unique Jamboree event at Burton Pidsea.”

The Jamboree has free burgers, hot dogs and other snacks from 12 noon. There will be arts and craft activities for all ages, there is a soft play area, and face painting, and a bar available at the Hall. The afternoon will be rounded off by an All Age Worship.
