gardening project“I never thought of my small back garden as ‘prize-winning’ and I only entered a few days before the competition because my neighbours suggested I did so. I didn’t expect to win anything!” – Grace Dunn, previous Hedon in Bloom winner

flower fuschiaHedon in Bloom is being judged this year on Saturday 2nd July. The 2016 competition will have categories for all types of gardens to enter, whether yours is large or small, a back garden or front garden, and whether it is open or enclosed. Have you got an allotment? There’s a category for you too. And if you tend your garden with the help of others there will be a category to enter for community gardens.

The competition is a chance for Hedon residents to showcase those planned spaces where you grow, display and enjoy the results of your gardening. The competition judges (normally led by the BBC Radio Humberside’s gardening guru Doug Stewart) will visit each garden entry on the 2nd July and then determine the winners in each category. The results will be announced later that month at a presentation ceremony at Hedon Town Hall.

Entry forms are available from Hedon Town Hall, St. Augustine’s Gate, Hedon (open 9 am – 3 pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday). Tel: 01482 898428.

Do you know someone (a neighbour, a friend or relative perhaps) who has a beautiful Hedon Garden? Then suggest they take part in the competition. As the example of the 2014 Hedon in Bloom winner Grace Dunn proves, that person could be our next overall winner!

Closing date for entries is Tuesday 28th June 2016.
