A PLANNING application has recently been submitted by Hedon Methodist Church for further development at its premises to expand both the church and community facilities.
The church, on the corner of Church Lane and New Road in the heart of Hedon, has applied for planning permission to create a new glazed reception area and entrance hall at the front of the building, providing enhanced disabled access, electronic signage, and a welcoming light area. Three rooms currently used for storage will be opened out from the reception area to create a modern coffee lounge and meeting facility for both church and community use. The church has been prompted into the development as a result of recent spiritual and community growth.
Rev Colin Plenderleith, the minister of Hedon Methodist Church, said: “Our congregation has been growing for a number of years, particularly we are seeing new people coming into church on a Sunday, and more people are taking part in our Messy Church events, weekly youth clubs and two music clubs for adults and children.
“The premises are also the home to many church and non-church based community activities including the W.I., Hedon Guides, Brownies and Rainbows, Hedon Art Group, a Craft Group, Majorettes and the Hedon Hand Bell Ringers as well as East Riding Council using our premises for adults with learning difficulties.”
Whilst investment has taken place at the premises over a number of years to provide a modern base, including installing a new kitchen area, disabled toilets, and multi-media facilities, the new development will enable the church to do so much more.
Rev Plenderleith said: “We are now at the stage where we need more space to grow our church activities and outreach further and feel this new development will provide superb facilities for the people of Hedon.”
