Ray and CameraREPUBLISHED: THE winning photo in our 2015 Summer Photo Competition is…

If you can't beat 'em“If you can’t beat ’em…. then join in!” by Carol Young. Congratulations Carol! Your photo was chosen unanimously by our three judges as the best photograph.

Carol said when submitting the photograph: “I thought this was a fantastic pic that I believe shows community spirit at its best.

“We had stopped to let the little boy join us for a picture with the Pirates (newly formed Kingstown Pirates of Hull) and un-be-known to us was photo bombed by these lovely guys!”

We totally agree Carol that this is a real example of the community spirit and joy that was demonstrated in abundance at the HedFest Carnival Parade on Saturday 15th August 2015.

Our bobbies photo-bombing the pirates is just marvellous! A worthy winner of our £100 first prize.

In second place was “Gladys Shows Festival Spirit” by Tom Bond. His subject is Mrs. Gladys Lewis, President of the Women’s Section of Hedon British Legion as she and her friends get ready to join the HedFest Parade. We just love the fact that Gladys is so cool and calm whilst everyone else around her is so hectic and busy!

Two entries take joint-third place.

“Wonderland” was taken by Pete Pollard and captures a wonderful scene of the girls with the carnival characters in the background taken in Hedon’s Market Hill at HedFest.

“Gizza hug!” features two stars of HedFest – “the Fat One” character specially commissioned for the Hedon Festival, and the beautiful Princess giving him a hug. This charming photo was taken by Linda Hinchcliffe.
