A typical scene at the beach... but look again! This ‘beach’ was actually inside the Scout Hall on Sheriff Highway!
The Beach Day ‘Bringing the Beach to Hedon’ was an initiative of Hedon’s Children Centre and was building on a successful event last year where a ‘beach’ was created at Farbank on Draper’s Lane – but this year on the morning itself, wet and rainy weather threatened the event planned for outside near the park area.
However, a change of venue to indoors at the Scout Hall saved the event and parents used social media, Facebook and their phones to let each other know of the new location. Result? The event was a busy scene of seaside fun!
Gemma Russell, Children’s Centre Leader, takes up the story (bold comments from parents):
“What a success! Due to the ‘lovely’ British weather there was a last-minute change of venue so the event was eventually held at the Scout Hut on Sheriff’s Highways rather than Westlands Play Park.
“Luckily the weather and venue change didn’t dampen spirits or affect the success as 87 children attended along with their parents and carers who told us they had lots of fun!
‘Such a great family event! The staff from the children’s centre work very hard to provide such a fun day for the children’.
“The centre would like to thank Play Action for joining us and providing a bouncy castle, face paints and a great range of physical equipment.
“All of the families had lots of fun, some enjoyed a picnic whilst others enjoyed an ice-cream from the van that attended. An excellent day was had by all including the staff who had a great time putting the event together.”
‘A very well planned, organised and FREE session suitable for all ages with a fantastic range of activities! Lovely to see and catch up with friends too, thank you!’
“We are all looking forward to next year…hopefully with better weather!”
