Hedon Blog Digital Surgeries – an idea for July 2015

Want to know a little bit about Facebook, Twitter or blogging? Want to find out how to get your community event posted to the Hedon Blog and HU12 Online? What about using WhatsApp or WordPress?

social media logos 2-001We’re asking readers if they are interested in taking part in some informal meet-ups in Hedon to talk about all things social media and digital? We’re calling it a ‘surgery’ because if you want to come along and find out how to set up an event on Facebook, or set up a Deck for your Tweets… we – or somebody else present – just might be able to help! We’re looking at short, snappy events that are not heavy and studious, but fun, friendly and helpful. And perhaps it can be the start of a self-help network for all those interested in digital Hedon!

To organise these, we’d need the kind support of some local venues in the town that have free public WiFi available – perhaps those selling tea/coffee or beer – to host the events for free for an hour (perhaps at a time when you would not normally be busy). The Blog would advertise the surgeries in advance and we’d hope people would turn up with their lap-tops/tablets and/or book a slot about their issue.

As well as the surgery these events could also be an opportunity for people to drop in notes, information and news for the Blog too!

So… are you a venue that offers free public wi-fi, and could you host a Digital Surgery? Then let us know at the Hedon Blog (, Twitter, Facebook). We’re looking at being able offer a variety of dates and times (from breakfast to evening) in July 2015.

Are you someone who might benefit from one of these sessions? Leave a comment and tell us the kind of issues you’d be interested in.
