MAGDALEN PARK Nursing Home, in Hedon, has collected the prestigious Pinders Healthcare Design Award, for best New Build Care Home in the UK for 2015.

The family run Yorkare Homes who own Magdalen Park are obviously proud and delighted to have won the Award which was presented to them at a ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel last week. The Pinders Healthcare judges consider all the very best new care homes that have been built recently across the whole of the UK. To win against such competition marks a real achievement for Magdalen Park but is also testimony to the quality facility available on our doorstep.

The care home on Magdalen Lane has different care units for residents requiring care for dementia or nursing needs and the judges were particularly impressed with the thought provided to the internal layout of the home to ensure the best care can be delivered, within an up market hotel feel. The judges were also impressed that there is easy and immediate access to external areas from each care unit on all floors, with one terrace including a bowling green on the roof while providing views across the Holderness countryside.

The Street Scene Magdalen Park

Magdalen Park was the only entry which included a full traditional ‘street scene’, along with its own licensed pub (the Magdalen Arms), which has quickly become the social hub of the place. The judges also noted that family members visiting can spend time with their loved-ones and join in with many activities, from dining in the pub, shopping in Sweets and Treats, using the nail salon or allowing the children to play in the children’s corner in the entertainments room.

Jonathan Garton, from Yorkare Homes said:

“The whole team enjoyed working on the project for the last two years and it’s fantastic to see the residents enjoying all the facilities in the Home.”

Hedon Mayor John Dennis was delighted to hear news of the Award and offered his congratulations:

“It’s very pleasing indeed to see the Garton family and the entire Magdalen Park team achieve such an important national award, and in the face of such competition too!

“I have supported this project since it first came before the Town Council back in 2012, and spoke in support of the scheme at both Hedon Town Council and East Riding Planning meetings. In August last year, as The Mayor, I had the honour of symbolically ‘pulling the first pint’ in their pub when the home opened for business, and after a tour of inspection I was convinced it would become a winner with local residents. Indeed I have put the project forward for consideration by the Chair of the East Riding in her awards contest which is being judged right now. I’m very hopeful it will be short-listed, and could even be a winner again.”

Pinders have been organising the Healthcare Design Awards since 1999, and the presentation ceremony is now considered to be one of the ‘must-go’ diary dates in the healthcare calendar. The Awards aim to promote and recognise the very best developments in all types of care-related property.

The Award categories have been selected to recognise the achievements of the widest range of designers, developers and operators. Care establishments of all sizes, types and locations have opportunity to enter.
