Faith group’s talk on Islam

THE MEN’S Christian Fellowship is holding a special meeting to learn more about the Islamic faith.

Men's Fellowship PosterThe Fellowship will be holding the event for members, with a local Iman giving the talk, at 7:30pm on Thursday 26th March 2015 at the Hedon British Legion Club.

The recently formed Fellowship of local Christian men from all denominations normally meet for a chat and a drink on the second Thursday of each month at 7.30pm for about an hour in Club on Magdalen Lane.

They welcome any new members. Just turn up at one the gatherings or ring Tony on 890603 for more details.

  1. With nearly 1 billion followers worldwide Islam is the second largest religion. Yet despite this, there appears to be very little information or understanding about the religion amongst non-believers or amongst those of the older generation who didn’t learn and discover about other religions through the traditional education system.

    Quite often the religion, particularly in the UK where perhaps less than 3% of the population are Muslims, is only really perceived through the media portrayal of it via the TV news or fiction.

    Whilst most people of other faiths, or of no faith, know that followers of Islam are called Muslims, that the Arabic word for God is Allah and the holy book of the faith is called the Qur’an, it’s probably true to say that understanding of the faith ends there.

    It is to their credit and the Men’s Christian Fellowship ought to be praised for holding this meeting for its members. It should really help towards creating greater understanding.
