Hedon Community First Responders – Thanks for ‘Reindeer’ service!

HOLDERNESS LIONS gave thanks to the Hedon Community First Responders this week for a very unusual service that the local life-saving team provide for them each year.

Santa’s Sleigh

The Lions Club ‘Santa Sleigh Tour’ with Father Christmas held in November/December each year delights local people in villages across South Holderness (and of course the Sleigh always appears at Hedon’s Christmas Lights switch-on and usually around Inmans and at the big Co-op during the tour.)

The Responders play an important part in the tour each year by ensuring that the Lions get to each venue on time by towing Santa’s Sleigh with a member’s vehicle – so in effect playing the role that the reindeer would traditionally play!

To give their thanks, the Lions have presented the Responders with a donation, and this year Holderness Lions Club President Barry Rojahn was delighted to hand over a cheque for £200 to the Responders.

Roger Allison Tim Houlton Barry RojahnRoger Allison from the Responders raises the actual cheque for £200 in salute to the Lions; his colleague Tim Houlton said that the amount donated almost covers the very-low running costs of the voluntary life-saving team for the year.

Community First ResponderThe Hedon Community First Responders will be out in Hedon Town Centre on Saturday 14th February 2015 promoting the work that they do. It’s appropriate that it’s Valentine’s Day on Saturday – a celebration associated with loving hearts. The volunteers in the Community Responders team can play an essential role in ensuring that hearts start beating again in the case of a cardiac arrest so perhaps do more than most people to love hearts!

The Responders will also be looking for new recruits to become part of the local team which provides immediate medical care to patients within the community in the vital minutes before an ambulance arrives. Working with Yorkshire Ambulance Service, full training is given to successful applicants who need to be over 18, physically fit and hold a full driving licence and have easy access to a car.

Look out for the Hedon Community First Responders in Hedon Market Place from 10.30am on Saturday 14th February 2015.
