FOOD features prominently on the ‘to do’ list at Hedon Youth Group this month. The 11 – 16 year olds who make up the members of the group are making pancakes at their next session on Friday 13th February 2015 – no doubt it will be a dress-rehearsal so that all the young people will be able to make family treats on Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday 17th Feb).
Did you know… pancakes are associated with the coming of the Spring; apparently eating pancakes imbues you with the energy, power and warmth of the returning sun?
After pancake making (and eating!), the Youth Group continues its study of food culture on Friday 20th February with a Chinese New Year celebration. The Year of the Goat will be welcomed by eating Chinese Food (although I assume that goat will not be on the menu…? Sorry for butting in with that quip).
Of course it’s not just food at the Youth Group which meets at the Red Cross Hut, Sheriff Highway every Friday 7pm – 9pm – other activities coming up include a visit from Iggy and Co reptile encounter specialists to see snakes and spiders, a bowling trip, and a visit to a Fire Station!
If you are young person reading this – or a parent or carer – and want to find out more about Hedon Youth Group, visit the website or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. The group is also always looking for volunteers who can help out regularly or occasionally.
If you are over 16 you can become a young volunteer with the group through a scheme that will offer you proper recognition for your volunteering efforts.
