RSP Martial Arts Logo (3)At the Hedon club’s classes on a Wednesday you get something unique says Paddy Cooney the chief instructor:

“We’ve blended many years of experience in reality based and traditional arts together making a fun but functional Martial Arts, teaching the students effective techniques in every range as well as the correct mindset to deal with conflict.

“We also teach what we call ‘soft skills’ which is pre-conflict awareness and avoidance techniques. Focusing on personal awareness can greatly reduce the odds of conflict.”

Paddy certainly knows his stuff: Sensei Paddy Cooney – literally from Japanese ‘one who has gone before’ or teacher – began his martial arts training 29 years ago influenced by his father Sensei Peter Cooney (who is currently ranked 8th Dan Black Belt with the World Martial Arts Council).

“I began my martial arts training in 1986 in the traditional art of Kung-Fu, I was soon to progress into Wado-Ryu Karate were I now hold the rank of 2nd Dan Black Belt instructor with the Takeshi Karate Association as well as holding a 1st Dan Black Belt and Affiliated instructorship recognised by the British Combat Association and the Minnesota Kali Group.”

Whilst blending together the world of martial arts and self-defence to create a different fun approach, the club is also keen to emphasise other positive aspects of its work with young people:

“All our junior classes are all taught in a safe and friendly environment whilst improving the younger student’s confidence, communication, discipline, respect, good manners and fitness,” says the Sensei.

The club holds three sessions on a Wednesday:

  • Wednesday 6pm – 7pm ‘little warriors’ for 5 – 10 years old
  • Wednesday 7pm – 8pm for junior aged 11-15 years
  • Wednesday 8pm – 9.30pm for adults 16 years and over

And NEW:

  • Monday 7pm – 8pm Ladies Kickboxing

Every new student receives the first 3 lessons FREE, but booking is essential.
