Hedon Youth Group – 5 years old!

MEMBERS of Hedon Youth Group were celebrating five years of success for the group last night at a special Halloween meal at the Kingstown Hotel.

As reported previously on the Hedon Blog the youth group officially turned 5-years-old on 16th October 2014, but left it until Halloween to celebrate with a meal at the Hotel and a birthday cake.

But the evening was tinged with a bit of sadness for the group as Di Storr chose the occasion to announce she would be standing down as Group Leader. One of the group members protested that they ‘wouldn’t let Di stand down!’ to popular support from other members, but it was decision made.

Cllr Di StorrDi Storr said: “It’s not been an easy decision for me to take, but my new job means I do shift work and I’m also involved as a Hedon Town Councillor with projects that also take up a lot of my time.

“I’ve achieved what I set out to do when starting Hedon Youth Group in 2009, I think it is one of the best in the East Riding and I am proud to have been a part of its growth. We have had some wonderful young people who have been part of the group, some who have moved on, and others that are still here and now volunteer.”

“The group has a regular base of reliable and capable volunteers and without them there wouldn’t be a youth group. I’d like to put on public record my thanks to all of them. I know I am leaving the group in safe hands and will remain a patron.”

The new Group Leader will be decided in the New Year.
