Hedon-Fitmums-webpage_thumb.jpgA NEW Fitmums & Friends group will start in Hedon on Monday 4th August 2014, 7pm meeting at the Haven Arms, to keep the spirit of running alive!

Fitmums & Friends is a not for profit, social-enterprise, organised by volunteers and is a run, walk and buggy group which supports women, men and children.

The group has its own Fitmums systems of support which mean all abilities of runner can be supported, including complete beginners. There are always a choice of run distances on offer; 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 miles.

The Fitmums network now has more than 60 members who have trained to become either volunteer run/walk leaders or UK athletics coaches and support sessions across Hull & East Riding.

Fitmums started in Cottingham in 2009 with five mums meeting for a run but it soon grew into a substantial organisation. There are now three groups covering Cottingham, East Hull & Beverley with run, walk and buggy sessions on offer and there are currently more than 350 members.  There is also a Fitmums organised scheme to support women with post natal depression to access intensive support to become physically active thus helping their management of the often debilitating symptoms.

And the newest group to be formed, is the Hedon one!

Sam Barlow, Fitmums Coordinator and Founder, said:

“Fitmums & Friends is now delighted to welcome its newest group which will launch in August thanks to the commitment and enthusiasm of Hedon mum, Julie Fenton.

Mum of one Julie will be setting up Hedon Fitmums & Friends with the support of her husband Paul and they have both recently completed their ‘Leadership in Running Fitness’ course.”

The new group will be offering supported runs for all abilities of runners. Julie can be contacted at hedonfitmums@gmail.com – annual membership fees apply, but potential members can try out up to three sessions for free before deciding to join.
