June – a brighter business banter!

JUNE is the month of the year with the most daylight hours. The likelihood is that we will spend more time shopping and in ‘retail therapy’ than May! So it would seem to be a good month to start a new business – and that’s precisely what is happening in Hedon.

Monday 9th June 2014 will see the launch of two new businesses in the town.

Scott’s Barbershop is Scott Gleadow’s new business opening on Souttergate next door to the King’s Head pub. With over 20 year’s experience Scott will be able provide traditional and modern designer cuts.  We understand that designer beards are something of a speciality too!

The photos also show the special barber’s chair for children – it looks like a car.

There are two other barbers in town Tony Carlisle and AJ’s – see our article on Hairdressers and Barbers.

Hedon Fitness and Nutrition

Hedon Fitness and Nutrition

Also opening on Monday is Hedon Fitness & Nutrition on New Road. On the site of a former sandwich shop and newsagents, the new business will provide help with people’s sports and fitness goals specialising in fitness and health supplements.

Another business closed last month and re-opened almost immediately with a new name! In case you blinked and missed it, Rhythm & Booze became Bargain Booze. This followed the acquisition of 26 stores, including the St Augustine’s Gate one,  by Conviviality Retail Plc from RNB Stores Ltd in May. Conviviality also trade as Wine Rack.

Work is continuing on the ex-angling shop – and to the untrained blogger eye, it looks like it could be a beauty salon!?

The old Heron store is currently being completely rebuilt and will eventually be merged with the existing shop to create one giant Heron Foods.

And another business anniversary is being celebrated this weekend – Johnson’s of Hedon, the DIY and Homecare shop at Johnson’s Corner, have been trading in Hedon for 45 years! Congratulations! … We hope to bring you more about Johnsons later!

  1. It’s nice to see Scott’s barber shop presented in a traditional way in keeping with Souttergate, very smart. Are the council still promoting the ‘best’ shop fronts, this is surely a contender.
