ELECTIONS: European Parliamentary Elections take place once every five years. The next European Election will take place on THURSDAY 22nd MAY 2014.

My Vote 2014

The UK has 73 MEPs (Members of the European Parliament). The UK is divided into twelve electoral regions with between three and ten MEPs representing each region. Yorkshire and the Humber has 6 MEPs.

There are SIX members of the European Parliament to be elected for the Yorkshire and Humber Region.

Note different voting system: Always read the instructions for filling in the ballot paper carefully, even if you have voted before. The ballot paper lists political parties and independent candidates. Under each party name is a list of candidates who wish to represent that party.

Simply put an X (a cross) next to the party that you wish to vote for.

If you make a mistake then you can ask the polling staff to give you another ballot paper.

There are 10 political parties standing candidates in Yorkshire and Humber and no independents.

A list of candidates is included in the official European Elections – Notice of Poll (PDF).

Voting takes place between 7am and 10pm at the HEDON METHODIST CHURCH, Church Lane, Hedon, HU12 8EL.

The results of the European Parliamentary Election will be announced at 10pm on Sunday 25th May 2014.

Notes: Electors and their proxies for the East Riding of Yorkshire counting area should take note that new applications to vote by post and changes to existing postal or proxy voting arrangements must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 7th May 2014 if they are to be effective for this election.

New applications to vote by proxy can be accepted until 5pm on Wednesday 14th May 2014.

Emergency proxy applications on the grounds of a medical condition, illness or disability, or where a person’s occupation, service or employment means they are unable to attend at their polling station (and this could not have been foreseen before the deadline for ordinary proxy applications) must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Thursday 22 May 2014.
