THE RISING of the sun prompted the traditional Sunrise Service on Market Hill on Easter Sunday. Nearly 30 early morning worshippers attended the service organised by Hedon and District Churches Together to give praise for the message of Easter and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
A 25 minute service with four hymns was led by Heather Burwell from the Christian Life Church. Readings and other thoughts for the day were delivered by others present.
Peter Ainscough, the Chairman of Churches Together, speaking after the event said that the Sunrise Service had taken place over the last twenty years – and it had gone ahead whatever the weather; having been held in rain, fog and snow in previous years. Fortunately for the hardy worshippers, Sunday’s event was fairly mild.
The uplifting event was followed by a breakfast at the Hedon Methodist Church.
Whilst the sun’s rise had prompted the Easter Sunday service, it was the moon that provided an Easter spectacle. On an otherwise cloudy morning, this photograph of the moon was taken in the Eastern sky just after dawn and shortly before the Sunrise Service. Remarkably it was taken with just a hand-held camera!
