STAFF from The Co-operative Food Store in Hedon will be dressing up as big babies in aid of The Co-operative charity of the year for 2013, Carers Trust between 12 and 1 pm on Tuesday 29th October 2013.
The event comes as part of a week-long ‘Care o’ Clock’ campaign coinciding with when the clocks go back on Sunday the 27th October, giving everyone an extra hour in their day. The campaign asks Co-operative Group employees what they will do to fundraise for young adult carers with their extra hour.
Organiser Vicky Frost said: “We were looking for a fun way to raise money for Carers Trust and all the work they do with young adult carers, and also raise awareness of what carers actually do.”
Terrie Oakshott, fundraiser for Carers Trust, said: “We’re really grateful to Vicky and all of the other team members for organising such a fun event! The money they raise will help us make a real difference to the lives of young adult carers, young people who are often isolated and unsupported in caring for their loved ones.”
There are an estimated 500,000 unpaid young adult carers in the UK. These are 14-25 year-olds who care for a family member or friend and who often sacrifice their own future prospects in order to care for their loved ones. Young adult carers are twice as likely to be not in education, employment, or training.
Carers Trust are The Co-operative’s charity of the year for 2013. The money raised from the partnership with The Co-operative aims to transform the lives of at least 20,000 young adult carers through support, mentoring, respite breaks, local projects and public awareness initiatives.
Taking part will be organiser and Team Manager, Vicky Frost; Team Leader, Susan Foster; Team Leader, Sharon Watson; and Customer Services Assistant, Angela Atkinson.
Note: The event is at the ‘little Co-op’ on Market Place, Hedon, Hull HU12 8JA.
The Big Babies event is being kindly supported by other local business in the town.
