Match Reports – Mike Oliver
Last week saw only the 1st XI in action as the 2nd string had no fixture, a very wet end to the week saw the clubs covers come into effect, not for the first time this season to make sure Saturday’s fixture with Hessle beat the elements.
South Holderness were asked to bat first and lost two wickets in the 2nd over, 22 from Mike Oliver and 32 from Rich Rosindale steadied the ship, before some big hitting from Ian Harrison 26 and Jaime Walkley 19 saw Holderness post 140-7 from their 40 overs.
Hessle looked odds on for a victory at 70-2 but 5 wickets fell for 6 runs in a 8 over spell and tail was mopped up to leave Hessle 88 all out and give Holderness the victory, Lewis Duell 4-14, Con Brattan 2-24 and Rich Rosindale 4-37 capped a fine all round performance to give the home team 20 points and bag their third win in a row.
This Saturday saw both senior teams in action, the 1st XI went to Hilltop and after a delayed start due to rain asked Hilltop to have first knock. Lewis Duell continued his good form returning 5-42, and with good support from Andy Kunkle 3-13, saw Hilltop back in the Pavilion for 105. After a solid opening stand of 30 from the old ‘uns, Rich Rosindale 34no and Lewis Duell 44no took no time in knocking off the remainder of the runs to give Holderness their fourth straight victory and move them up to fifth in the table just 20 points off top of the table Cottingham.
The 2nd XI went to Driffield and was 46-1 (Gary Chapman 26) before play was washed out by our great British summertime weather.
Monday saw our Under 15’s go down to Zingari, Zingers batted first and scored 110, Harvey Green 1-9 and Ben Lowery 1-14 were the only wicket takers. Liam Cloclough 19 and Jack Riley 16 top scored in our total of 64.
On Wednesday we gained some revenge over Zingari as the Under 13’s won their match, 110 was posted by Holderness with Finn Riley 15, Alfie Simms 19, Nick Sison 14 and late runs by Liam Colclough and Luke Ingram both 10 no top scorers for the home side. Good line and length bowling saw Zingari restricted to 80-8 of 20 overs with Liam Colclough 2-8, Nick Sison 1-3, Matt Lowery 1-14 and Joe Robinson 1-4 the chief wicket takers as the U13’s continue to impress and maintain their good form ahead of their Yorkshire Cup game against Beverley this week.
