THE COMMONWEALTH may have celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee last year in June, but the anniversary of her coronation is this year 2013. The Coronation took place on the 2nd June 1953 over a year after Elizabeth’s accession to the throne on 6th February 1952 upon the death of her father King George VI.
The following places have indicated that they are organising celebrations on Sunday 2nd June 2013:
Hedon – The Coronation is being celebrated in Hedon at a Heritage Open Day at the Town Hall, 11am – 3pm, with a display of the Hedon Silver as well as a collection of any memorabilia received from local residents. Contact Hedon Town Council on 01482 898428 for further information.
Preston – Preston Playing Field will be the centre of the celebrations in Preston, where a bouncy castle, barbecue and stalls will set the scene for a fun Sports Day and Races. The fun starts at 1pm. Contact Lyn Carmichael on 01482 896426 for further information.
