COUNCILLOR ANN SUGGIT has spoken out on the need to get dog wardens operating more frequently in Hedon.
Councillor Suggit used the occasion of last week’s Town Council meeting to express her concern at the continuing problem of dog poo littering local streets. And while she welcomed dog fouling action weeks in other parts of the East Riding, she was dismayed that not enough has been done locally to tackle the problem!
Dog fouling is not just an environmental concern that looks awful, the faeces carry serious health hazards such as toxocariasis, which predominantly affects children who come into contact with dog poo – in some cases this illness caused by worms in the poo can cause blindness!
If you are a dog walker the message is simple: Pick up after your dog – bag it and bin it! You can use any council litter bin as long as you bag it first.
If you want to report dog fouling, and you know the offender or when the fouling is happening, the dog warden team can investigate this. You can report dog fouling on the East Riding Council’s website, by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone on 01482 396301.
We’ve included this poster from Wakefield Council – which perhaps gets over the dog poo message far more effectively than anything the East Riding Council produces!
