Common route footpath – muddy concerns

Ivy Lane muddy footpath

CONCERNS have been expressed about the state of a footpath which connects the bottom of Ivy Lane with the existing tarmac pathway leading to New Road.

This is a well used route, used by people at all times, particular by children and parents accessing Hedon Primary School and the nursery. The footpath is of the type you would find on a regularly used country walk and could perhaps be described more accurately as a dirt track.

Now Mat – a local resident – has written to Hedon Town Council to ask if something can be done to improve the situation.

“It would be a real encouragement to everyone to walk into Hedon and the schools if they were able to do so without becoming covered in mud. A better footpath may well even encourage more people to leave their cars at home and help to alleviate some of the parking issues in Hedon.”

Mat recognises in his letter that some work has been done in the past to lay chippings in an attempt to designate a footway, but emphasises that during wet weather this chipping surface is not up to the task. He asks the council to consider installing a permanent and more suitable tarmac footpath at the location.

What do other residents think about Mat’s suggestion? Let us know?

  1. Mat, I have seen your comment on the blog, no one in the Town Hall has mentioned any email in regard to this well used route, please contact me, ring or email, my details are on the Town council website and in the phone book

  2. The council can’t be held responsible for the weather! I would be concerned if every muddy path were to be covered in tarmac or something similar. Is it really so much further to access the school by Ketwell Lane, or the nursery by Church Lane. If you want footpaths and countryside you’ve got to accept what goes with it -.

  3. Having emailed the Hedon Town Council my concerns, they haven’t even bothered to respond. I’d expected some acknowledgement after 16 days. Not very impressed.
