Wednesday Writings – An Average Road

An Average Road by Vinny Shepherd…

An average road…in a rented car.
In borrowed clothes.. but the shoes were mine.
But it’s all temporary, don’t start to feel so very..
In the gang… in the gang.

For 2 months or 3.. some people needed me.
Most were homeward bound..
Some were happy their feet won’t touch the ground.
But it all comes down to a price.
Strangers could never be that nice.
Rock, paper, scissors.. roll the dice.

I know the joke I wrote the punchline yesterday.
So nearly broke, but I’m a richer man today.. a richer man today.

8 hours late.. in a less than straight, figure of eight.
All dressed in white, but don’t worry cos I’ll turn out the light.
Their words were so soft hitting.
I was the last man sitting.
But i stayed warm.. I stayed warm.

I know the joke I wrote the punchline yesterday.
So nearly broke, but I’m a richer man today.. a richer man today.

I may be a wasted flame.. but I’m brand new every second.
And tomorrow I’ll do the same.
With a head wind.. on my back.
Just a young fool on a dirt track
But don’t worry cos it’s never quite the end.

I know the joke I wrote the punchline yesterday.
So nearly broke, but I’m a richer man today.. a richer man today.
