Monthly collection calendar - useful until March
Monthly collection calendar – useful until March

HEDON TOWN COUNCIL has received a notification from the East Riding Council that fortnightly collections of green and blue wheelie bins will start from March 2013.

Green bins are currently collected weekly and blue bins monthly – but all that will change in March when the new fortnightly system will be introduced. The changes were piloted last year, including trials in Thorngumbald and Keyingham, and residents seem to have used their recycling blue bin much more effectively. Brown bins are already collected fortnightly.

The East Riding Council recycling team are willing to come and speak to local community groups about the proposed changes.

If you require any more information or you would like to arrange a talk about any waste and recycling issue including the fortnightly bin collections please contact Jonathan Crozier at jonathan.crozier@eastriding.gov.uk or on 01482 395605.

  1. Still waiting to hear more about this, but the East Riding Council confirms on its website the roll out is planned to take place in March in Holderness (including Hedon, Withernsea, and surrounding villages).

The Council says that all residents will receive a letter, leaflet and new collection calendar ahead of the new collection service starting.

  2. I think this is a great idea. My family recycles a lot, and usually fill our blue bin in a couple of weeks, but we often don’t bother to put our green bin out every week as there is so little in it.

  3. Whilst I realise this saves the council money my green bin has to last a fortnight at Christmas presently because they don’t collect – so will the new system mean residents with mid week collections will be waiting a month ????
