THE BP SIREN signalled the start of the Hedon Remembrance two-minutes silence on Sunday 11th November 2012. The chimes of St Augustine’s Church were silent at 11am, replaced instead by the siren that chillingly resembles a World War II air raid alarm.
Following a service in the church, veterans, representatives of the armed forces and local civic leaders took part in a respectful parade to the Hedon Cenotaph where wreaths were layed by Deputy Lord Lieutenant Elaine Garland, Hedon Mayor Councillor Jim Lindop and other service representatives.
The service at the Cenotaph included a reading of the Ode to the Fallen, a short service led by the Rev Kathy Lawrie and an emotional bugle playing of the last post.
The Civic Party then made their way down Ivy Lane to the Town centre in order to receive the formal salute from the marching service representatives led by the band of the Army Cadet Force.
