Hedon Christmas Lights 2012

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

HEDON’S CHRISTMAS LIGHTS switch-on for 2012 takes place on Friday 30th November.

This event is traditionally the biggest night in Hedon’s annual calendar. This year looks likely to be the same with the town’s main streets being opened for 28 festive street stalls stretching from the Queen’s Head to the Market Place, carol singers and music. Fairground rides this year will be located at the back of the Queen’s Head pub.

Jaimie-Leigh Smithson – Hedon’s 12-year-old singing sensation fresh from the National Open Mic UK talent competition, will be giving a performance by special invitation of the Hedon Mayor, Councillor Jim Lindop.

This year there will be an opportunity to come and see real Christmas reindeer whose visit to Hedon has been paid for by Vivergo Fuels.

KCFM Radio will be at the event from 6:00pm and the Mayor is expected to switch the Christmas Tree lights on at 6:30pm.

The local shops tend to stay open for the night and quite often put on something special – and the window displays are an attraction in themselves!

If your business is doing something for the Christmas switch-on – let us know and we’ll give you a plug on this page 🙂

  1. At 1515pm I was informed that only one big ride had turned up to go in the car park rear of The Queens Head pub off Iveson Close and no others were due to arrive, so I made the decision to send it away and opened the carpark. It is very disappointing to have arrange with a company to provide rides for older children and then the company fails to fulfill the full agreement, sorry for the inconvenience, but the carpark is open, please make the most of all the other stalls, rides,Father Christmas and Reindeers.

  2. Hedon Dry Cleaners hot choc and nibbles, Jane Brooks Law mince pies and wine,HSBC Bank hot drinks mince pies tombola, Rollin Pin pies peas turkey pork sandwiches jack potatoes cakes, Rings and Things free wine mince pies, Nutmegs full menu, Hedon Inks and Toners cookies and wine, East Riding Pharmacy orange juice and mince pies, come and support local charities, rugby and football teams ect, please enjoy the evening

  3. think the fair would have been better on market hill, no one is going to be able to park, and st augustines gate is closed from one thirty. I have a business, but I am closing shop in the afternoon and re opening on the night because of this, as i cant get any of my deliveries etc

  4. Very pleased that there is a fairground for the kids and VERY pleased that it has been moved out of the centre away from the countdown as the noise spoiled last year. Well done whoever thought of that !!

  5. What is the need for a fairground? It is a CHRISTMAS light switch on not a fair. Where are you proposing that people park on the evening of the light switch on, and during the day to use the local businesses? I can’t see how a fairground is benefitting to the community.

  6. The 27 Christmas stalls will include those selling mulled wine, hot food, tombola, balloons, cup cakes, chocolate fountain, hot dogs, Christmas wreaths and craft stalls.

Please note that Iveson Close Car Park will be closed from 7am on Christmas Lights day to accommodate the fairground.

  7. lights where good last year with everything together, this year there will be people missing lights because they are in the car park etc. there was no trouble last year.

  8. UPDATE: Refreshments will be available from 6.00pm including coffee, tea, biscuis, cake, served in the Alexandra Hall, featuring Magic Man MR. MORLEY a Family Entertainer – organised by the Christian Life Church.
