HEDON YOUTH GROUP opened its doors for the very first time on Friday 16th October 2009 – and is celebrating its 3rd anniversary!
The Youth Group is managed by volunteers and opened in 2009 as a result of a four-year campaign by local people to improve the range of activities for young people in the town. It has met most Friday nights ever since.
The Youth Group, for 12 – 17 year olds, meets between 7 pm and 9 pm at the Red Cross Building on Sheriff’s Highway – except when the group members are out on trips: As well as bowling, laser quest and visits to the ice rink, group members have also had a look behind the scenes at local police and fire stations.
It was set up with initial support from Hedon Town Council and the Withernsea Lions, and has also received grant support from others including the East Riding Council and the Co-op.
The big Co-op on Hull Road, Hedon is offering its support to the Youth Group during December 2012 when a range of fund-raising activities will take place there. During that month a collage produced by group members will be on display showcasing their activities and thanking the sponsors who have helped them along the way.
Di Storr, Group Leader, tells us that the 3rd anniversary is particularly important to four young people who attend – they were amongst the original young members from 2009. One of these is now going through training to become a volunteer at the group himself.
Youth Group members will be celebrating their 3rd anniversary with a games and pizza night on Friday – but we suspect that birthday cake just might be on offer as well!
