BARBARA JORDAN retired yesterday after 30 years service as a school dinner lady at South Holderness School. As well as receiving her Long Service Award from East Riding of Yorkshire Council she also received cards, gifts and flowers from many of the staff and students.
She started work in the Lower School Kitchen washing pans and after a few years moved to the Upper School Kitchen initially as Assistant Cook and finally as Cook in Charge.
Upon being asked by headteacher Martin Cooper if she will miss the role she said “I won’t miss the early starts on cold mornings or scrubbing the floors at the end of the day, but I will miss the hustle and bustle of the school and of course the children.”
Barbara plans to relax over Christmas and New Year and then intends to join a gym and to enjoy time with her family and friends.
