A FORMER HEDON RESIDENT has been handed a conditional discharge after admitting benefit fraud.
Mrs Maria Robinson, aged 62, formerly of Magdalen Gate, Hedon, appeared before magistrates in Hull on Friday, 27th May 2011. She admitted failing to promptly declare to East Riding of Yorkshire Council that she had vacated her property.
Information received via a data matching exercise indicated that Mrs Robinson had vacated her property in August 2009.
Mrs Robinson received a 12 month order of conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £280 towards the Council’s costs. She will also have to repay the £7,463.19 housing benefit fraudulently claimed during the period August 2009 to August 2010.
Andy Hardy, council fraud investigation manager, said:
“It is only a matter of time before those choosing to commit benefit fraud are caught. Data matching plays a very important role in the fight against fraud; information received is valuable and continually highlights potential fraudulent activity.”
