Children’s Christmas Party – the ‘do-it-yourself’ approach

THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION Club in Hedon is holding a Children’s Christmas Party on Sunday 12th December, from 2pm – 6pm.

The Magdalen Street club is charging £1.00 entry for each adult, but all children get free entry.

Santa will be making a guest appearance  at the party, but parents are asked to bring their own small present up to the value of £5.00 for each child. The gifts, which should be clearly marked with each child’s name,  will be given out by Santa.

By adopting this approach, then it likely that each child will receive a gift that they are likely to enjoy and appreciate. It will ensure that all children get an equal surprise but don’t feel Santa has favoured another child who has received a more expensive gift. Also, parents don’t feel pressured to ‘keep up with the Joneses’ when purchasing a gift.

It will be interesting to see if this “DIY” approach to a Christmas party works. The other approach would have been for the Club to rely on advance booking, charge £6.00 and take charge of the gifts themselves. What do you think about the approach adopted by the Legion?
