Get Online Week

Do computers and the internet frustrate you? Has the Internet revolution passed you by? Then read on…


GET ONLINE WEEK takes place from Monday 18th -24th October and is part of a massive campaign to get 9 million people in the UK, who currently don’t use the internet, able to use it by 2012. This campaign is called Race Online 2012.

Bridlington will be the focus of Get Online Week on Tuesday 19th October when the Government’s Digital Champion Martha Lane Fox will be visiting the Community Resource Centre at the resort. There will be opportunities to experience social networking such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube with friendly staff to give you plenty of help.

The South Holderness Education Centre in Preston will be holding Get Online events on Monday 18th and Wednesday 20th October. You can find more local events at the UK Online Centres website.

  1. A press release from the East Riding Council highlights the case of Hedon resident, Gordon Thurston (pictured above).

    Gordon regularly attends drop-in sessions at South Holderness Adult Education Centre and has learnt a great deal from them.

    He said: “Before I attended the IT drop-in sessions I was unable to access or write emails and I found the guidance and assistance offered to be of great value. I was able to ask questions and learn from experience and I feel I am now prepared to go further and would like to be able to do power point presentations.”

    There will also be events at Withernesea Adult Education Centre from 10am to noon and 1pm to 3pm on Tuesday, 19 October and Hornsea Library from 1pm to 3pm on Thursday, 21.
