At a special service last Sunday 10th January 2010 the Archbishop of York blessed the parish church of St Andrew and praised the hard work of villagers in rallying to raise funds for major repairs.
In 2007 the church faced closure unless funds could be raised to repair the roof and restore it. However, when local people heard about the possible closing down of the Grade 1 listed building they pulled together and raised more than £80,000. This is a remarkable achievement considering the village has less than 900 residents (765 in 2001).
The village fundraising efforts and successful grant applications have raised more than £237,000 which have helped restore the church and install a modern toilet and kitchen.
