£200 millon is to be invested into a new biofuel plant at Saltend. Once operational the plant is expected to convert one million tonnes of wheat into 420 million litres of bioethanol and 500,000 tonnes of high protein animal feed each year.
Vivergo Fuels is the specially created company behind the development, which it describes as “a biorefinery for the future”. The company is made up from a partnership of BP, DuPont and British Sugar.
The new plant will create up to 400 construction jobs over the next 12 months with approximately 75 permanent jobs being created.
